![]() Ten years ago looking into his wife's ancestry, Len Luttrell of Coos Bay, Oregon started doing genealogical research. Len and his wife did all of their research out of the LDS Family History Center in North Bend, Oregon. These records from Salt Lake City were their total research base until a motor home trip through Virginia brought them to a small town of Botentort. This town sounded familiar and prompted Len to stop at the courthouse where he received copies of wills and other records that gave them two additional generations to their tree. Since the beginning of their search they found the migration route going from Virginia through Illinois, Missouri and ending in Oklahoma in 1905. Six years ago Len turned his attention to the Luttrell family. While searching Irish locations he ran across a genealogist in County Kildare with the same name as his great great grandfather, Simon Luttrell. For three years they have been emailing and swapping research. They participated in the Y chromosome DNA testing and found they had perfect match on 23 markers. Len and his new found cousin Simon are now trying to find the paper trail to prove their relationship. Their work has filled in holes in their family tree which stretches from Ireland to Ontario to Prince Edward Island, Canada, Australia and recently Argentina Len has been a dependable and hard working volunteer for IGSI. He is involved in the indexing of files that find their way of the website and he is part of the IGSI Website Committee. None of this should surprise us since Len volunteers for other great causes such as helping low-income seniors with their income taxes through AARP,has helped with Medicare Supplemental Insurance counseling and is now heavily involved in the drug program for Medicare D. Volunteers matter to IGSI. Every job is important to us and brings value to the organization. We need all levels of participation. We need all levels of volunteers.
